TV’s original urban cowboy! Dennis Weaver stars as Deputy Marshall Sam McCloud, a Stetson topped, sheepskin coat-wearing, horse-riding cop from Taos, New Mexico on loan to the N.Y.P.D. Sure, Police Chief Clifford considers him a hayseed, but McCloud gets results, using his honest, no-nonsense country ways to solve complex crimes. And thanks to his horseback riding skills – honed during his long run on Gunsmoke – he’s able to round up outlaws on the streets of Manhattan, even in gridlock conditions. McCloud (1970–1977) was inspired by the movie Coogan’s Bluff starring Clint Eastwood as an Arizona cop on a mission in New York. There ya go.
