Amen

Set in 1980s Philadelphia and starring Sherman Hemsley as Ernest Frye – deacon of Philadelphia’s First Community Church and an attorney with a considerable disregard for basic legal ethics. Amen follows Deacon Frye as he juggles between his hair-brained schemes to raise money for the church and a growing rivalry with a young, naïve new minister named Rev. Reuben Gregory, played by Clifton Davis. And the plot thickens further when Frye’s only daughter, Thelma (Anna Maria Horsford) falls in love with his idealistic nemesis.

Amen originally aired on NBC from September 27, 1986 to May 11, 1991 for five seasons and 110 episodes.
