Felix (George Segal) is a nebbish bookstore clerk who writes at night. When his neighbor, Doris (Barbra Streisand), makes too much noise, he informs their landlord she’s a hooker and has her evicted. With nowhere to go, Doris insists on moving into Felix’s apartment, which results in Felix’s expulsion as well. The two turn to Barney (Robert Klein), Felix’s friend, and move into his apartment, but split up the next day. Missing her, Felix invites Doris to his fiancée’s house, where they share a bath, only to be caught by the girl and her father. Felix and Doris take their leave, deciding maybe they’re meant for each other after all.
