As a result of a series of fluke phone calls, the newly-widowed George Schneider (James Caan), a gentle, shyly humorous New Yorker, meets Jennie MacLaine (Marsha Mason), a young actress on the rebound from a broken marriage. When Jennie realizes she’s falling in love for the second time around, and with George equally smitten with her, they marry after having known each other for only ten days. What begins as a surging, billowing honeymoon in Bermuda soon becomes a tidal wave of trouble as George has a monumental attack of guilt and, finally, fear. So, upon their return to New York, Jennie finds she must fight the ghosts of the past in order to live and love in the present.
